- My FMOF MontageIn General Discussion·July 21, 2023Hello to all fellow lovers of Uncle Forry's timeless creation! I'm a noobie here, so I thought I would include something in my first post -- a montage of Famous Monsters of Filmland covers I cobbled together back in 2010. I was trying to learn Photoshop, and decided I would take some images from various FMOF covers and see what i could do with them. This is what I came up with. I made some changes to some of them to allow them to interact with each other, and tried to inject a bit of humor here and there. I recently made a change to it to include Uncle Forry, didn't seem right to not include him. You can download it at full poster size, or at least I hope you can (not sure how things work here). Hope you enjoy it.1325
- My Famous Monsters of filmland StoryIn FANG MAIL·October 13, 2022This is a rehash of my "About" page here on the site but thanks for checking it out! Please add your story! I was born in 1965 so I was a bit late to the Famous Monsters party. My first issue was the 1972 Fearbook. Following a day of fishing, my dad purchased it for me at the Navy PX at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. I was 7 or 8 and once I got my hands on it, I was hooked! That cover drew me in and freaked me out. I had to have more. I was already a horror fan by that time...religiously watching Creature Feature on WDCA Channel 20 in DC with the legendary host Count Gore De Vol @goredevol played by Dick Dyszel. DC's version of Zacherley! I never got a Famous Monsters subscription but I purchased them whenever I came across them. I collected fairly consistently from 1974 to 1979. We moved from Maryland to Guam in 1976....following fifth grade. I had a few friends there but I also spent a lot of time alone and Famous Monsters was my escape. I'd wait expectantly for each new issue to arrive at the base PX and I'd devour it like Godzilla devours fighter jets. I'd read it over and over. No near mint back issues for this guy. Those books were READ and enjoyed. I still have a few survivors! I eventually drifted away from Famous Monsters of Filmland. But I never forgot it. Years passed, I got married and became the father of 3 amazing children. One day in the late 1990s, I dug my old "stuff" out of my folks' attic and got reunited with Famous Monsters of Filmland! I found a great comic shop in Baltimore that was not too far from work. I purchased a few old raw issues, safely put them away, and forgot about Famous Monsters of Filmland for another 20 years. I was just too busy to get fully into collecting again. Fast forward to January 2021 and the itch came back. I discovered CGC and certified Famous Monsters of Filmland books. I was finally in a place where I could purchase the back issues I had always drooled over in my old magazines. I decided at that time I wanted to build a collection of above CGC average Famous Monster of Filmland books from issue 1 through issue 36. These represent the issues from the beginning of publication through the year of my birth. In addition, I chose to also collect the early Yearbooks/Fearbooks. So here I am today. Dying to keep the memory of Famous Monsters of Filmland alive! Thanks for taking the time to stop by. There is a lot out there to look at on the World Wide Web. I appreciate you taking the time to check out my site. Please come back often and by all means participate! Happy Haunting! Alec1244

- What is your favorite Cover? In General DiscussionMay 16, 2024Like potato chips, i can’t pick just one, but any cover with Basil Gogos artwork always catches my eye. I had the opportunity to meet him at NYCC the year before he passed away. I had been wandering the floor of the Con for hours and was getting ready to leave when I saw his book on a display. I picket it up, started thumbing through it and I said to my friend who was with me, and more to myself “Wow Basil Gogos” and from the other side of the display I heard someone say “Yes, and would you like me to sign it?” I looked up and found myself face to face with him. He was wonderful, very gracious, we had a brief chat, he signed my copy of his book. A great way to end a Con.11
- What is your favorite Cover? In General DiscussionJune 8, 2023Issue 4 "Ghouls Eye" edition, but also non-eye issue as well. Also August 1963, Vol.5, No.3. Has great expo on "Werewolf of London" with great painted cover of Henry Hull as Dr. Glendon, the unfortunate Lycanthrope. Fabulous article by Edward Eustace, compares, the "Werewolf of London" makes "Dracula" look like as sissy" when comparing the brutality between the characters. A great read.2
